American Deadland

Between Olaf and a hard place.
Black Hats, Bronies, and our heroes caught in the crossfire.

We open on Olaf’s bar in the not-quite scenic town of Olaf’s Junction, a survivor settlement built on the ruins of a border town between Desert and Colorado boarder. Even in it’s heyday the town wasn’t much to look at other than a couple of stores on main street, a few commercial buildings, houses, all surrounded by farmland as far as the eye could see. But since the end of the world the farms dried up and turned to dust in the absence of irrigation, and the desert quickly retook the town.

The Junction is the home to around 50 stoic souls, a fraction of it’s prewar population. This is both due to food constrains and the fact that few people want to live under the shadow of the Red Rattler, a monstrous Mojave Rattler who preys on unsuspecting travelers. Most of the locals avoid the creature by traveling light, and building their homes on the second and third floors of what were once main street businesses. Olaf, the local bar owner and loan shark runs the town more or less from his saloon/brothel, making a small profit off travelers and locals.

A scavenger named Jebadiah, was interested in searching the surrounding deserts for the discarded equipment of a failed Confederate covert operation and hired a few mercenaries to watch his back as he combed through the sands. His expedition must have met with some success as he ended up dragging back two unusual packages, one a large metal object the size of a beer keg the other a thermas shaped object wrapped in canvas.

This little expedition did not go unnoticed however, the Steel Knights heard that Jeb might be looking for CSA 1st Armored Infantry equipment and send Dietrich out to investigate. Unfortunately for Dietrich a road gang of cartoon equestrian fanatics ran into him on the road and ended up chasing him all the way to Olaf’s bar.

At Olaf’s Junction a small group of Black Hats had arrived in town, curiously far from Denver, they quickly searched the building searching for an individual they believed on the premises. Having heard the Black Hats storm in, Edward narrowly avoided detection by climbing out a window in his underwear, only to discover it was not him the black hats were looking for. Fortunately for him Daniel helped him down from the window ledge, where they both overheard the combine was here to nab Jeb, whom they identified as Doctor Lockhart. Unfortunately for everyone in the bar, Diedrich was on route with a small army of Road Gangers in tow.

More interested in killing Black Hats than our Steel Knight Errant, the Bronies as they call themselves wrecked most of the black hats vehicles and kicked off a running chase which led to the top of a wrecked building, There the Black Hats called for dust off while trying to fight off both our heroes and Bronies. A quick sensor Jam courtesy of Dietrich caused a raptor to miss its landing, but it did manage to drop off one Automaton into the melee.

Before the Raptors could turn the tide with their twin chainguns a Red biplane swooped down from the sky and wrecked one of the Raptor’s shits before drawing the second one off into a midair dogfight. Now the posse is trapped on top of a crumbling building in an ongoing firefight, an underdog biplane is all that is standing between them and the chainguns of a Combine Raptor, and to make matters worse a now Red Rattler has made an appearance to see what’s all the commotion.
